It was very close to the Westley Richards Anson & Deeley design and was the subject of a pitched high court battle over alleged patent infringement in the late 1800's, but WW Greener managed to make it stick and built many (if not most) of his high-grade boxlocks on similar actions. The F stands for Facile Princeps (translated as 'easily superior'), Grrener's own patented boxlock action design. Looks like your friend was lucky enough to find a reasonably high grade Greener. I have seen the standard 'E' guns but I dont know what the F is - can anyone shed any light on this? It will take a while to get my hands on the gun to show any photos.
He called me and said 'If you dont want it I will have it'!! That's what friends are for right?Īnyhow it is a standard Empire action boxlock - no engraving, very nice timber apparently. Shooting & Reloading - Mausers, Big Bores and othersĪ friend was thoughtful enough to put some money down on a WW Greener shotgun for me today.
